The HeART of Selling
The reason most people, especially women, despise selling or avoid it, is because we have been taught that in order to “get” someone to buy or make a purchase means we need to manipulate them into doing it. I thought that too when I worked for corporate America.
I found another way to do it that was much more soul-satisfying. Selling matters because it is the lifeblood of our businesses. If we don’t sell, meaning exchange goods and services for money, then we are either running a charity or won’t be around for long.
The HeART of selling is not about us or our ability to “make” or “get” a sale. It is about flipping our philosophy from getting to giving. It means we become customer focused and understand their problem so we can solve it. When we solve other people’s problems or enhance their life in some way, we serve.
It is about adopting a belief system that says “I am exchanging my product or service for money and how I am going to do it is by serving and solving. And, I have the audacity to stand in the powerful truth about the end result my customers get and make sure they understand that.” When we serve and solve, it is natural for the buyer to say Yes.
